Pre & Post Spray Tan Care

Frequently Asked Questions

For the best results, exfoliate with a mitt! Shower scrubs may contain oils that could interfere with the spray tan, and a loofa is not sufficient to exfoliate the skin. Don’t forget to exfoliate dry areas of the body, including the feet, hands, knees, elbows, and face.

If you choose to have your face sprayed, it is advisable to discontinue retinol at least two days prior. Continuing use may cause the tan to peel or fade more quickly on your face.

A sunburn or sun damage can lead to uneven tanning, peeling, or spots with lighter or darker areas. It is recommended to wait 4 to 6 weeks after sunburn or damage for your skin to heal before getting a spray tan. (Sun damage is not always noticeable and can affect a tan even if the skin looks fine.)

We require a signed waiver to spray over a sunburn or skin damage, to ensure you are aware that if the tan does not develop properly or results in unevenness, it will be considered the client’s responsibility, and we are not held liable for the outcome.

Yes, a spray tan will enhance freckles and sun spots (some sun spots may not be noticeable until you have a spray tan). If you are concerned about this, we can discuss alternatives, such as a clear spray without bronzer or a lighter tan, to minimize the spots.

It is recommended to avoid wearing a bra until after your first shower. If necessary, choose a loose-fitting, non-tight bra to prevent lines in your spray tan.

The optimal time to schedule your spray tan is 1-2 days before your event, as it takes 24 hrs to fully develop. For vacations, booking one day prior ensures the tan lasts throughout your trip.

Swimming can cause your spray tan to fade more quickly because of the salt or chlorine in the water. To help protect your tan, apply a spray-tan-safe sunscreen before swimming to act as a barrier. After swimming, rinse off thoroughly and reapply moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and your tan looking its best.

If you accidentally get water on your spray tan before your first rinse, use a blending brush right away to gently smooth out the area. Once you take your first shower and the bronzer has fully rinsed off, the spot should look even and blend in with the rest of your tan.

If you notice an odor or your tan appears slightly brassy, using a pH-balancing body wash (such as Vagisil) can help neutralize the odor and correct the color. For women, natural pH levels may fluctuate throughout the month, which can influence how the tan develops. To help mask any lingering spray tan scent, a light vanilla-scented deodorant is a great option.

If you notice streaks on your skin after your first rinse, it usually means the cosmetic bronzer was not fully washed off. Simply return to the shower and gently re-rinse the area, making sure to use your hands to lightly rub the skin and remove any remaining bronzer.
